Public Service Medal

Purpose :
To recognise the outstanding service of members of the public services and other goverment employees, including local goverment. 

Description :
The Public Service Medal is of circular nickel silver with the Federation Star on the Suspension  The obverse shows human figures about the sircumference of the medal representing the wide diversity of people with thie public service.  The central focus of the medal shows four planetary gears spaced equally around a sun gear. In the centre is a 'wheels within wheels' image signifying the machinary of goverment and surrounded by the words 'Public Service'  The reverse of the medal bears a wreath of wattle surrounding the inscription 'For outstanding Service'  The colours of the ribbon are Australia's national colours of green and gold.

Only one award is made to an individual.
