1 Eligibility

RNZAF personnel of all ranks and civilian employees of the RNZAF are eligible for the award of the Chief of Air Staff's Commendation for outstanding zeal and devotion of duty. In addition to the award of a certificate, recipients will be entitled to wear the Chief of Air Staff Commendation Dress Insignia.
2 Chief of Air Staff Commendation Dress Insignia

The Chief of Air Staff Commendation Dress Insignia comprises an eagle and two stars on a dark blue background, with single diagonal light blue and red stripes. The eagle and stars represent the Office of the Chief of Air Staff. The insignia is to be worn on the right breast of the uniform shirt and Service Dress jacket, 1.5 cm above the nametag. The award of two or more commendations is denoted by a gilt metal border to the insignia.
3 Recommendations

Air Base Wing Commanders are to recommend personnel who are considered deserving of the award of the certificate biannually through the command chain to Air Staff (DCM(F)) not later than 1 February and 1 August.
b
To provide for standardised presentation, recommendations, which must indicate the high standard of merit of each individual, are to be submitted on RNZAF 500: Nomination for Meritorious Service Medal/CAS Commendation. The citation is to be prepared in accordance with the guidance notes on page 4 of the form. Recommendations are to be submitted in priority order.
4 Promulgation of Award
a
AFOs(T) will notify the Chief of Air Staff's Commendation awards and provide authority for the issue of the Chief of Air Staff Commendation Dress Insignia.
5 Presentation of Certificate

The Certificate of Commendation will be presented personally to the recipient by the Chief of Air Staff at the first convenient opportunity following its award.

RNZAF personnel of all ranks and civilian employees of the RNZAF may, subject to the approval of the Chief of Air Staff, accept and wear the insignia of commendations awarded by the Chief of Staff and Commanders not below two star rank of Commonwealth Armed Forces, the Chief of Naval Staff and the Chief of General Staff. The insignia is to be worn on the right breast of the uniform shirt and Service Dress Jacket, 1.5cm above the nametag.
