Traffic Service Long Service Medal

ELIZABETH THE SECOND, by the Grace of God Queen of New Zealand and Her Other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith, to all to whom these presents shall come,

GREETING!

WHEREAS We are desirous of signifying Our appreciation of long and meritorious service by persons engaged in traffic enforcement in Our Realm of New Zealand:

WE do by these presents for Us, Our Heirs and Successors, institute and create a new Medal.

1. Style The Medal shall be designated and styled ``The New Zealand Traffic Service Medal''.

2. Description The Medal shall be of silver and circular in shape, bearing on the obverse the Crowned Effigy of the Sovereign, and on the reverse the inscription ``The New Zealand Traffic Service Medal'' encircled by two New Zealand fern fronds and surmounted by a Royal Crown.

3. Ribbon The Medal shall be worn from the left breast suspended from a ribbon, 32 millimetres in width, of light blue having in the centre narrow stripes of black, white, and black.

4. Eligibility The Medal may be awarded to any person---
(a) Who, on or after the 1st day of January 1987, is engaged in traffic enforcement as a
uniformed Traffic Officer or Road Traffic Instructor; and
(b) Whose character and conduct is, in the opinion of the Secretary for Transport, of such
good standard as to warrant the Medal.

5. Service required The qualifying service requisite for the Medal shall be 14 years continuous service.

6. Reckoning of service
(1) Subject to subclause (2) of this clause, the following service may be reckoned towards
the qualifying service for the award of the Medal or any Clasp thereof:
(a) Service with the Ministry of Transport in Our Realm of New Zealand:
(b) A maximum of 7 years' service with any local or public authority in Our Realm of
New Zealand, being service which, in the opinion of the Minister of Transport or a
Minister of the Crown acting for or in the place of the Minister of Transport, is of a
similar standard to that prescribed for Officers of Our Ministry of Transport:
(c) A maximum of 7 years' service with the New Zealand Police, being service which
has not been recognised by the award of The New Zealand Police Long Service and
Good Conduct Medal or Clasps thereof:
(d) Service as a Traffic Officer Trainee undergoing full-time training.

(2) Service that has been interrupted by a continuous period of non-service exceeding 28
days shall not be reckonable.

7. Clasps
(1) A Clasp to the Medal, to be attached to the ribbon when the Medal itself is worn, may
be awarded on completion of each additional 7 years of continuous service subsequent to
those for which the Medal was awarded.
(2) For each Clasp awarded, a silver rosette shall be added to the ribbon when worn alone.

8. Registration The names of all those to whom the Medal is awarded shall be recorded in a register kept by the Secretary for Transport in Our Realm of New Zealand.

9. Names of recipients The name of the recipient shall be engraved or stamped on the rim of the Medal.

10. Order of wear---In the official list showing the order in which Orders, Decorations, and Medals shall be worn, the New Zealand Traffic Service Medal shall in Our Realm of New Zealand be placed immediately after our New Zealand Prison Service Medal.

11. Miniatures
(1) Reproductions of the Medal in miniature, which may be worn on certain occasions by
those to whom the Medal is awarded, shall be approximately half the size of the New
Zealand Traffic Service Medal.
(2) A sealed pattern of the miniature Medal shall be deposited with and kept by the Clerk of
Our Executive Council of New Zealand.

12. Delegated powers Delegated powers to make awards under the terms of this Our Warrant shall be vested in Our Minister of Transport in New Zealand or in a Minister of the Crown acting for or in the place of Our Minister of Transport, save only on a recommendation by the Secretary for Transport.

13. Other awards Those persons who were engaged in traffic enforcement on or after the 1st day of January 1987 and who are in possession of The Long Service and Good Conduct (Traffic Enforcement) Medal or a Clasp thereof granted by the Secretary for Transport may make application for Our New Zealand Traffic Service Medal and Clasps thereof.

14. Forfeiture and restoration It shall be competent for Our Minister of Transport or a Minister of the Crown acting for or in the place of Our Minister of Transport, on a recommendation by the Secretary for Transport,---
(a) To cancel and annul the conferment of the Medal or any Clasp thereof on any person;
and
(b) Where the conferment of the Medal or any Clasp thereof on any person has been
cancelled or annulled, to restore the Medal or Clasp to that person.

15. Annulment We reserve to Ourself, Our Heirs and Successors, full power of annulling, altering, abrogating, augmenting, interpreting, or dispensing with this Our Royal Warrant, or any part thereof, by a notification under Our Sign Manual.
